Massachusetts Disability Task Force: Waypoint’s Disability History Hike

Members of the Massachusetts Disability Task Force Steering Committee attended a “Disability History Hike” on December 1, 2025. Waypoint Adventures hosts these hikes for community and corporate groups, traversing the woods in and around the Waltham site of the former Fernald State School, once called the Massachusetts School for the Feeble-Minded. At stops on the way leaders share chapters in the uneven history of Fernald as one of the first residential institutions in the country for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities among others. The Foundation supports the administrative functions of the Disability Task Force, a networking and professional development organization for Massachusetts disability professionals.
